Pay Period

In order to calculate earned wages and schedule when employees receive their paychecks, a pay period is used. Pay periods are established permanently and typically repeat weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly. Selection of a pay period depends on various factors such as gross pay, labor laws in different states, industry etc.
